An local trading system for the Greater Saint Louis Metropolitan Area, using the "Favor" as the name of our currency.

As of October '08, after being around since the beginning of February, we have about 25 members and growing.

Our members offer a wide range of goods & services ranging from chiropractic, clothing, gardening/permaculture, home-made products, massage and more! - come join and see what we have to offer!

Tell us about yourself, your background, interests, skills.
I started this exchange hoping to bring about an alternative means for St. Louis locals to help each other out, to create community, and to express lofty yet attainable goals like the creation of CES-based food purchases, rent payments, medical/health treatments, legal support, etc.

Aside from my interests in making our communities more close-knit & sustainable, I am interested in the local food movement, organic agriculture and animal husbandry, homesteading, appropriate technology, computers / electronics / engineering, & practical metaphysics.

I am just starting out. But I have a lot of hope for improving communities through CES. I hope to be able to use this network to share helpful information with others.

Hi David. Good to see you here. Tim tells me you're up-and-running with an installation of CES. Can I get you to register your group as a Group, and also to join the "CES User Group"? Let me know if you have questions.

Currently working with people who need to work but do not have work

I am working with the Americorps VISTA program and am looking at this for a way to facilitate trade and employment for my office that I currently reside in which is in Northport, Alabama. I think the CES model is good yet what is its effectiveness thus far? What are the numbers for success? Is there any place I can look or find this information?
Thanks,
Sean K. Liebel

Introducing COGS

The Point of COGS

COGS stands for Circle of Gifts, and is a complementary currency specifically designed to help local communities re-localise activities. The aim of re-localisation is to provide inhabitants with the possibility of an acceptable quality of life when traditional economic development fails, or their circumstances are against them.

We believe complementary currencies will become more important as energy supplies dwindle and impact the economic growth so essential for inter… Continue

People around the world are increasingly concerned and even fearful about the present state of our economy and the real possibility of a recession turning into a depression.
