What do we want the apps to do?

Pick up the password used to access FB or NING - pick up or embed the CES account number into the widget.
Essentially be able to access the CES site at the click of a button without having to log in again.
And anything else you can think of!

An easy way for people to add a button to their FB and NING profiles

I think a ning app would be a better idea than a facebook app. We would get drowned in the tens of thousands of other facebook apps not to mention the noise and utter crap that does the rounds on facebook.

I don't know if any ning apps are available yet but it would be awesome if we were one of the first.

The documentation can be found on http://developer.ning.com/

So are you a developer and can you do this?

No, but I could have a crack at it. I'm a call out computer tech by trade but I have learned the basics of programming at a young age and dabbled around a bit with web development.

If I can find some example open social applications and I assume most of them are open source there might be one I could learn from and or modify.

There is also a proposal for an opensocial currency API that is discussed on the open money ning site.

We should consider if community-exchange is going to collaborate with or be inter-tradable with other virtual or meta currencies.

I think we should stay away from virtual currencies like Ven though where people buy them using "real money". They of course are run for a profit motive and not to benefit the movement towards economic post-scarcity, even if they did start out meaning well they are to close to the existing and soon-to-be old order of things.

Whichever way we decide to go we should try to learn as much as we can from other projects and find out what projects and ideas other people are working on in this area.

Just as a follow up to what's been happening. I went to create a sandbox site and so far i'm getting a message saying the site is under maintenance. Once it's up an running i'll start learning how to make ning apps.

Look forward to some apps!

Thomas Greco is the most radical writer on money today. The very title of the book suggests that the future of civilization depends on abandoning money-as-we-know-it. What could be more radical and revolutionary than that? Yet on readin… Continue

Introducing COGS

The Point of COGS

COGS stands for Circle of Gifts, and is a complementary currency specifically designed to help local communities re-localise activities. The aim of re-localisation is to provide inhabitants with the possibility of an acceptable quality of life when traditional economic development fails, or their circumstances are against them.

We believe complementary currencies will become more important as energy supplies dwindle and impact the economic growth so essential for inter… Continue

Mobilising The Real Wealth of Community - An Article by Alana Tobin

People around the world are increasingly concerned and even fearful about the present state of our economy and the real possibility of a recession turning into a depression. Having grown dependent upon an economic system which has increasingly failed us now our economy is in a rapid state of decline. As a growing number of people are losing their jobs and homes, many are finding themselves in rather precarious and even dire circumstances. Should the economy significantly worsen none of us likes… Continue
