I love Les Squire's organized discussion articles on what a CES is and how to use the program.

How many people do you think would like to see a video or movie which shows off the benefits of a CES exchange? Imagine having access to a video you can show to prospective members which can show some of the benefits and show examples of several CES transactions taking place which illustrate people using the exchange in different ways.

I think that this would be an good tool to have at our disposal to show people for initial exposure, to break through the "defensive" wall that most people build up against new ideas.

I would love to help contribute toward an idea like this and I am sure there are a lot of people out there that could help with ideas, content, development and production.

Once a video was created it would be fun to do voice overs for different languages too.

I'd love to do the french version of the audio...

A video would be great! Are you planning to pull together a team? I'd be happy long-term to assist in marrying my getting started curriculum with the video.

I think a video promoting CES would be great. I was sold just on reading the opening page at www.community-exchange.org, and surprised to see a ton of links on money and debt and more....There is a few videos of TimeBanking on Youtube. Perhaps one could get a video made of users of CES, the founder, or how a trade is done.

Perhaps a Camtasia video on the CES Demo could be used for a video as well...

I have a power point presentation which I created for myself - you're welcome to use it.

Hi Dawn. If you can give me a voice over for this then I can use it to create a youtube video. If not that can you give me a transcript of what you tell people when you show each slide. send to johanhorak at gmail dot com

Another thing to concider is audio podcasting on a regular basis...

Like a tiny weekly show... Well crafted, and under five minutes.

A good video would serve the purpose of introducing the newcommers to the world of local exchange, and then the *radio* show would keep them interested. By telling stories that they can relate to.

The huge advantage of audio, is that it is relatively easy (and cheap) to get good production values.

Right now I'm struggling with some "technical" issues in my life, but as soon as those are solved, I'd be more than happy to work on a project like this. :-)

Guys, I have a great idea for a video. What if we did a piece on someone who lives totally on this sort of system? Like maybe a CES roadtrip movie. It's kind of a dare. I mean, someone who gets along with almost no official wampum. It would be interesting to show a whole bunch of this brand of individual; people all over the place, doing their own thing, their way. I am sure people would love to share their stories. There have to be a lot of great ones out there.

I, for one, would be ready to just jump and travel all over the country (or anywhere) with a videocam, getting people's takes on this, seeing different situations in different exchanges, reporting it all and blogging the whole way. Now, I have to check in with my significant other about this first, of course. But would that not be cool?

It would be an interesting challenge, just to see how far you could go, just on this exchange system, like maybe flying to other countries using someone's ff-miles in exchange for programming a website or so, etc. Just see how wild you could get with this idea. It would be really inspiring for everyone! It could be set up like a game.

Gargi, currently in Fort Wayne, IN, but open for new horizons... hmm... I always did want to be a reporter at heart.

I would be happy to contribute editing, rendering, 3D animation, and title work to the project.

That sounds great! Shall we get together online and discuss the storyline?

Having a video demonstrating the functionality of CES would do more for the cause than anything else I can think of.

Ok, so if you are ready to start, let's do it! Let's start the video project directly on the basis of the CES. In other words, whatever we need for making the video about community exchange comes from and benefits the community.
I am ready to start. Do you want to collaborate?
My idea is to travel from place to place trading my skills and building up local groups along the way. It would be great for me as I love to travel. then we can take videos and interview people along the way. We can set up speaking engagements and get groups together. Talk to local businesses etc. How are your time constraints? If you have a few days off, we can start!
Love,
Gargi

Understanding Money

I had one of those moments again, when I was wondering about the people of this world ....

Again and again I'm surprised about how little people care about the money system. Money is something so essential and central to our civilisation, yet almost nobody ever makes the effort to find out how it really works. When talking about the money system, I don't mean to talk about budgeting or investments or what we use money for. Of course money can be used for good, and often is. What I mean i… Continue

Currently working with people who need to work but do not have work

I am working with the Americorps VISTA program and am looking at this for a way to facilitate trade and employment for my office that I currently reside in which is in Northport, Alabama. I think the CES model is good yet what is its effectiveness thus far? What are the numbers for success? Is there any place I can look or find this information?
Thanks,

Book Review: The End of Money and the Future of Civilization

By Thomas H. Greco, Jr

Published by: Chelsea Green Publishing, White River Junction, Vermont, USA (www.chelseagreen.com), 2009. ISBN 978-1-60358-078-6

Thomas Greco is the most radical writer on money today. The very title of the book suggests that the future of civilization depends on abandoning money-as-we-know-it. What could be more radical and revolutionary than that? Yet on readin… Continue

Introducing COGS

The Point of COGS

COGS stands for Circle of Gifts, and is a complementary currency specifically designed to help local communities re-localise activities. The aim of re-localisation is to provide inhabitants with the possibility of an acceptable quality of life when traditional economic development fails, or their circumstances are against them.

We believe complementary currencies will become more important as energy supplies dwindle and impact the economic growth so essential for inter… Continue

Mobilising The Real Wealth of Community - An Article by Alana Tobin

People around the world are increasingly concerned and even fearful about the present state of our economy and the real possibility of a recession turning into a depression. Having grown dependent upon an economic system which has increasingly failed us now our economy is in a rapid state of decline. As a growing number of people are losing their jobs and homes, many are finding themselves in rather precarious and even dire circumstances. Should the economy significantly worsen none of us likes… Continue
