What is the Community Exchange Network?

Collaboration -- that's what we do here. The primary purpose of this site is to provide interactive space for members of local CES exchanges to share perceptions, problems, resources and successes. Newcomers are welcome too!
Registered with a local CES exchange? You already know the value of trading goods and services without using conventional money. Join in the activities here on this site. See below for ways you can get involved.

Not registered with a local exchange? Find a Group in the list of Groups below and join it. You'll receive timely announcements of activities. After that you can register with the exchange by clicking the Register CES tab above.

Considering setting up your own local exchange? Join the "What's involved?" user group. Explore. Talk to others like yourself who are mulling it over.

Business Owners As a business person, you're wondering what's involved with associating your business with trading exchanges. Talk with other businesses on this site.

Things You Can Do Today

  • Rely on the CES Shared Directory -- Contact any Member by clicking on their photo. Every photo is one-click access to that person's resume. Read their background, skills, interests. See what they're involved with. Welcome them. Connect. Recommend them to others with similar interests.
  • Admins, register your existing CES Exchange -- it's important to have all Exchanges listed as Groups -- just need a title, logo, brief description and you're in! If it doesn't appear on this list, please add it.The secret of this site is inter-Exchange communications.
  • Upload Your Photo -- use "profile photo" -- be sure to "save" after "done".
  • Edit your profile. Name, photo, biographical information, privacy settings.
  • Publicize events important to all CES exchanges -- help us all stay on top of what's happening, who's doing what and where and why it's important
  • Introduce new topics of discussion -- issues, questions for the group, polls, observations on any subject relevant to CES...
  • Publish your own exchange blog -- publish your clever ideas world-wide, astute observations, hunches about clinical research issues and directions
  • Suggestion Box -- post your suggestions for our CES community.
  • CES Search -- use Search in upper right corner of every page to zero in on topics or people you want, skills you need, events to attend, etc., etc. Watch what happens when I enter "Argentina"...

Introducing COGS

The Point of COGS

COGS stands for Circle of Gifts, and is a complementary currency specifically designed to help local communities re-localise activities. The aim of re-localisation is to provide inhabitants with the possibility of an acceptable quality of life when traditional economic development fails, or their circumstances are against them.

We believe complementary currencies will become more important as energy supplies dwindle and impact the economic growth so essential for inter… Continue

Mobilising The Real Wealth of Community - An Article by Alana Tobin

People around the world are increasingly concerned and even fearful about the present state of our economy and the real possibility of a recession turning into a depression. Having grown dependent upon an economic system which has increasingly failed us now our economy is in a rapid state of decline. As a growing number of people are losing their jobs and homes, many are finding themselves in rather precarious and even dire circumstances. Should the economy significantly worsen none of us likes… Continue

Credit and Debit Limits

Credit and Debit Limits

What are credit and debit limits and why do we need them in a community of givers and receivers promoting the notion of abundance? Surely limits create a shortage of the currency, taking us back to debt-based conventional money where those of us who are short of the stuff have to borrow it from those who have a surplus?

Credit and debit limits are absolutely essential for the health of an exchange. In the CES we do not impose 'hard' limits where the system stops… Continue
